Careers in Criminal Justice
Careers in Criminal Justice
Our Criminal Justice and Criminology degrees provide a strong academic base for careers in the broad field of criminal justice, such as:
- the police service
- the security services
- the private security sector
- the probation services (magistrates' and crown)
- the prison service
- social work, community care and law
- community safety
- the voluntary sector
- and other regulatory agencies.
The Centre for Criminal Justice Studies has excellent links, especially through the Advisory Board members, with a wide range of agencies and practitioners. We can therefore help students who want to explore work experience and graduate opportunities.
Careers events
The Centre for Criminal Justice Studies, in conjunction with the Careers Centre and the Leeds branch of the West Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board, organises a biennial event for Criminal Justice students to gain direct access to first-hand careers information and advice. This is an opportunity for students to meet representatives from a wide range of criminal justices agencies, collect information, and discuss potential career and work experience opportunities.
The agencies who normally attend include the following:
- Courts Services (Crown and Magistrates)
- Crown Prosecution Service
- Police
- Prison Service
- Probation Service
- Victim Support
- Youth Offending Service
