Leeds Law Society
The University of Leeds Law Society is the largest and most active society within the University. We are very proud that we are the largest University Law Society in Europe.
The Society provides social, sporting, academic and career activities to law students. All Law Society members can take part in elections, as well as the Annual General Meeting that takes place in March or April. You also have the opportunity to obtain cheap books from the Annual Book Sale which is held at the start of every academic year.
We have a fantastic reputation at the University for social events. National and international law firms sponsor many of our events; for example, the Staff-Student cricket match sponsored by Allen & Overy.
We hold a Careers Dinner in the first semester of every year, offering Law Society members the chance to speak with solicitors about future career plans. In addition, we host presentations by law firms on campus where you will have the opportunity to discover more about a particular firm and network with its trainees, associates and partners.
The Society also holds an annual Sports Dinner to celebrate the success and dedication of our sports teams, which are entered into the intra-mural leagues at the University. Additionally, our football, netball and rugby teams play in national tournaments.
The pinnacle of the Law Society social calendar, however, has to be the Law Ball which usually takes place in March each year.
The Law Society offers domestic and national debating, negotiation and mooting competitions. We hold a mooting competition specifically for first years and another for the other years, enabling individuals to develop this key skill. Likewise, debating and negotiation events and competitions are available.
