Professor Graham Dutfield
Professor of International Governance

I am founding Course Director of the LLM in Intellectual Property Law.
I have some positions outside Leeds: Research Affiliate of the Intellectual Property Law and Technology Program at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Toronto and Adjunct Professor at the Center for Studies of Intellectual Property Rights at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Wuhan, China.
I am a member of the IPBio Network based here at Leeds, and am on the scientific advisory board of a Canadian synthetic biology project called PhytoMetaSyn. I have a D.Phil. from Oxford University.
Scholarly and Research Interests
My research on intellectual property crosses several disciplines, including law, history, politics, economics and anthropology. More general scholarly interests include the law, science and business of creativity and technical innovation from the enlightenment to the present, especially in the life sciences.
Other research areas include intellectual property and access to knowledge, human rights, sustainable development, health, agriculture, genetics, biotechnology, traditional knowledge and folklore, bioprospecting, and indigenous peoples' rights. Teaching
I teach mainly on the LLM in Intellectual Property Law.
PhD Supervision
I currently supervise doctoral students on patent management, human rights and copyright, justice in traditional knowledge protection, and regulation of traditional medical knowledge.
