I am currently working on a Nuffield Foundation funded study of the impact of anti-social behaviour interventions on young people and local communities, with Professor Adam Crawford and Dr Sam Lewis.

I have previously worked at the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies on an Alcohol Education and Research Council study of alcohol policy and a Joseph Rowntree Foundation study of the policing of problem drug users.

I have also worked on research into housing, pensions, ageing and ethnicity.

Scholarly and Research Interests

I am interested in criminal justice themes, including youth justice, policing and legitimacy, drug consumption, anti-social behaviour, policy formulation at the local and national levels.

I am also concerned with broader social and cultural issues including poverty, ageing, gender, ethnicity, political engagement, protest and new social movements, urban regeneration, the environment.

Teaching

My teaching is in the areas of research methods and policing.
