Dr Emma Wincup
Senior Lecturer

I joined the School of Law in 2005 having previously held academic posts at the University of Kent, Cardiff University, University of Wales, Bangor and the University of Cambridge. I also spent a period of time in the late 1990s on secondment to the National Assembly for Wales to refocus their drug policy.
I am currently one of two Deputy Directors of the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies and Programme Manager for the undergraduate degree, BA Criminal Justice and Criminology.
Scholarly and Research Interests
My research interests centre around the interconnections between crime policy and social policy. At present I am conducting research on problem drug use and welfare reform and I am writing up findings from projects on the resettlement of prisoners and the street policing of problem drug users.
I am also interested in the criminological research process, criminal justice-policy-making and employability of criminology/criminal justice graduates.
Teaching
I am module convenor for Crime and Social Exclusion (Level 1), Criminology (Level 2) and Criminal Justice Policies, Perspectives and Research (Postgraduate). I also contribute to Understanding Crime (Level 1).
I supervise dissertations for the BA and MA programmes in Criminal Justice and Criminology.
PhD Supervision
I am currently supervising four PhD students undertaking research on youth offending, fashion counterfeiting, women and electronic monitoring and the resettlement of older offenders.
I am happy to supervise research students (MA. MPhil and PhD) in line with my interests outlined above.
