The Advocate General - A Necessity or a Luxury?/ Professor Rosa Greaves (University of Glasgow)

18 April 2012 | 4:00pm - 5:30pm | Seminar
Room 1.09, The Liberty Building

Guest Speaker: Professor Rosa Greaves; Discussant: Dr Iyiola Solanke; Chair: Dr Jen Hendry

Rosa Greaves is a Professor of Law and the current Head of School at the University of Glasgow, and an alumna of the University of Leeds School of Law. She specialises in European commercial law and most of her research and publications are in this area. Rosa also recently co-authored a book on the contribution of Advocates General to the creation and development of the European Community's legal order (2007).

This presentation will discuss the positive job done by the Advocates General of the European Court (The Advocate General and EC Law, 2007) while also questioning the role in terms of its long-term future. It will specifically engage with the question as to who benefits from Advocate General Opinions, and how the role can be improved if it is to be maintained.
