Women prisoners constitute a small percentage of the prison population worldwide, and their distinct needs are often neglected. The need to bring more clarity to standards that should apply to the treatment of them has acquired significance and urgency. This study aims to investigate the implementation of international health care standards in women's prisons in the Arab world. It is an attempt to open up new questions concerning the objective reality of the health care provision in women prisons that shapes the response of the Arabic male dominated criminal justice system to the international standards.
