Amrita Mukherjee, the School's Director of LLM International Law, was a guest speaker at the IBA Annual Conference on International Criminal Law on 31st January, at the Peace Palace in the Hague, the Netherlands.

Dr Mukherjee formed part of a panel which discussed 'Respecting state sovereignty and the ICC – unwilling or unable?' An examination of current cases in which the ICC is confronting states to investigate alleged crimes; give access for investigations; deliver-up suspects; hand over evidence; and accord priority to the ICC over constitutional rights.

Other speakers included Paola Gaeta, Professor of International Criminal Law, University of Geneva; Dr Dan Plesch, Director and Reader, Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy, SOAS and Ambassador Helmut Tichy Legal Adviser, Austrian Ministry for European and International Affairs. The discussion was moderated by Professor Sir Geoffrey Nice QC Gresham Professor of Law, Gresham College and barrister.

The conference was presented by the IBA War Crimes Committee and supported by the IBA European Regional Forum.
