Professor Subedi’s book launched in China

During a lecture tour of China, a book written by International Law Professor and Barrister Surya P. Subedi O.B.E.’s was launched at a ceremony held in Beijing, after being translated into Chinese and published in China.

The book authored by Professor Subedi and entitled, ‘International Investment Law: Reconciling Policy and Principle’ was published by Hart Publishing, Oxford. Owing to its increase in demand in China, it was translated into Chinese by Professor Zhang Lei and published by Law Press, China. It was launched by H.E. Justice Hanqin Xue, the Chinese Judge at the International Court of Justice based in The Hague.

When launching the book, Justice Xue stated that Professor Subedi’s book was an excellent contribution to international investment law and would enhance our understanding of the interplay between this body of law and other areas of international law. She added that a book of this nature would be helpful for the economic development of China and in fashioning China’s economic relations with other countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Huang Min, President of Law Press, China, stated that his publishing house was delighted to publish a book of such high quality authored by one of the leading international lawyers. He added that the book was on a topical area and relevant to China’s efforts to expand its economic relations with other countries. The translator of the book, Professor Zhang Lei stated that he was inspired by Professor Subedi’s book and out of his love of the subject matter he had decided to translate it into Chinese and was privileged to do so.

At the ceremony, Professor Subedi delivered a lecture on international investment law in a changing world and the future of international investment arbitration and a number of Chinese scholars commented on his book and his lecture based on his book. The ceremony was attended by judges, lawyers, law professors and scholars. Professor Subedi thanked the academic community in China for the welcome, warmth and hospitality extended to him and his wife, Mrs Kokila Subedi, during their lecture tour of China. During his lecture tour he delivered a series of lectures in international human rights law at Beijing Normal University, in international investment law at China Foreign Affairs University and on Asian perspectives on international dispute resolution at Tsinghua University.
