Professor Akman speaks at American Bar Association Panel on big data
Professor Akman was an invited speaker on an American Bar Association (ABA) Panel on Refusals to Deal in Big Data: An Antitrust Risk? on 6 July 2017.
The panel was organised by the ABA Section of Antitrust Law, Civil Procedure and Practice Committee. It was moderated by Lee Roach (Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP). Professor D. Daniel Sokol (University of Florida) spoke alongside Professor Akman on the panel.
Professor Akman provided the EU perspective on big data and a refusal to supply big data as a potential abuse of a dominant position under EU law, whilst Professor Sokol discussed the US law and perspective on the same issue. It emerged as a result of the discussions on the panel that there is potentially divergence between the EU and US antitrust approaches to this topical and challenging issue.
