Should there be a minimum unit price for alcohol?

Dr Henry Yeomans has recently spoken on Radio Aire addressing whether a minimum unit price for alcohol should be introduced.

Campaigners in the UK are pushing for a unit of alcohol to cost at least 50p. Meanwhile, Scotland will be deciding this week whether a minimum unit price in Scotland is legal.

Henry has recently delivered his findings on alcohol pricing to the Home Office and commented: “a minimum unit price itself as a policy has never been used anywhere in the world, so there are projections of the impact it would have upon consumption and on various forms of alcohol-related harm. There are question marks about exactly what the effect would be and whether it would be as drastically positive as the Alcohol Health Alliance suggest."
