Law school staff recognised in Leeds University Union Partnership awards
Two School of Law colleagues have won one of the prestigious Leeds University Union (LUU) Partnership award.
The annual LUU Partnership awards recognise and celebrate the achievements, commitments and impact of students, staff, and postgraduate researchers here at Leeds.
Professor Nick Taylor, from the School won the Inspirational Teacher Award which was awarded to the person who has used their passion and dedication for a subject area to inspire others to be ambitious, enthusiastic and challenged students to develop new ideas. Nick who was described as one of the “bright lights” of the school, received numerous nominations highlighting his inspiring teaching, feedback, guidance, and support, both academic and pastoral. Nick was particularly praised for his “work to foster a spirit of inclusiveness amongst the year and the focus on making great memories throughout students’ time at the University of Leeds”.
Sarah Humphreys, the School’s Legal Advice Clinics Co-ordinator and Chair of School's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee picked up the prize for Equality and Inclusion. Sarah’s work to champion and promote equality in the School, which has now been embedded into everything the School does thanks to her efforts, was highly praised at the awards with events like Law’s Got Talent, Equality Cinema, the various celebration months and more generally the increased profile given to all that we do to ensure equality and inclusion in the School was particularly praised.
Congratulations also go to Marika Hildebrandová the Schools’ Education Service Officer (Student Support) who was runner-up in the mentor category for her work mentoring and nurturing students in the School.
Head of School, Professor Alastair Mullis said: “It was a very proud moment to see our colleagues recognised for all their hard work. Nick, Sarah and Marika work tirelessly for the good of the School, and the University as a whole, and it is fantastic to see this rewarded.
“Finally I want to thank everyone who nominated these and other colleagues. I believe we had more nominations than any other School and that is something that we can be justifiably proud of.”
