Why I chose Leeds
I chose Leeds because of the excellent reputation of the Law School and the excellent academic and support staff. At Leeds you are being taught by leading experts in their fields of knowledge.
The Criminal Justice and Criminology course is also a very unique course, it’s not offered at many universities, especially as part of a Law School.
One of the other reasons I decided to study here was because the University of Leeds is a campus university - everything is located close together, yet you are only 5 minutes from town centre. The transport links to and from Leeds are also great and it’s so easy to travel back home and visit other cities.
My passion for the course
I really enjoy learning new things every day and the excellent lectures given in the School of Law make Criminology an intellectually rewarding subject. Many aspects of the course relate to everyday life situations, so everything you are learning relates to real-life experiences.
So far the course has been great - an excellent and rewarding experience. I’m so glad that I chose to study at Leeds…I definitely have no regrets!
The best aspect of the course for me is the variety of modules available right the way through the 3 year programme. I’m also really looking forward to doing my dissertation in 3rd year!
The learning environment
There are excellent facilities available for all students. The brand new Law School – the Liberty Building, makes the learning environment a pleasant one. It has excellent lecture theatres and seminar rooms and internet access in the Law Common Room, which is an ideal area for doing your work!
The two University libraries (Brotherton and Edward Boyle) always have plenty of books available, I have to say, it’s rare that you cannot get hold of the book you want.
Each student in the School gets assigned a Personal Tutor who provides great support with any issues a you may have and the Reception desk staff are always very helpful with any queries you may have.
Outside of study
In the School there is Crim Soc (Criminology Society) which I will be President of this year. Within this society we offer socials, sports teams, academic talks/visits which all help you find your feet in the first few months at Uni . The societies are also a great way to meet people on your course. Outside of the School, the University offers a huge amount of extra-curricular societies and activities, with anything from football to ultimate Frisbee being offered.
Outside of studying I enjoy playing football, both amongst friends and for the Criminology team. I also enjoy socialising and meeting new people, going on nights out and generally having a laugh at University!
Leeds is a fantastic city - it has something for everyone! There are a wide array of nights out and places to visit, from museums, football grounds, restaurants, cinemas and pubs. There is plenty to keep you entertained away from University- 100% recommended for a city to study in.
I would really recommend the course and the University of Leeds to everybody. It’s an excellent place to study, it has a brilliant Law School and the academic staff are very supportive.
In terms of my careers aspirations, my aim is to apply for the Police Force and work my way up the ranks.
