About me
I’m originally from a city called Bangalore (now called Bengaluru) in the southern part of India and have been in Leeds now for just over one year.
I have always wanted to pursue a career in Law. Back home, I attempted the Common Law Admission Test for entry into the National Law Universities in India. My rank in this exam would have admitted me into NALSAR, one of the premier law universities, but I decided I wanted to pursue law abroad.
What I love about law is that there is no right or wrong - everything is open to interpretation and argument. It is this uncertainty that appeals to me.
My time at Leeds
England was the obvious choice, considering almost all legal systems in the world have their origins in England. Leeds is renowned for its law school and the structure of the course really appealed to me, which is why it was my top choice!
The LLB Law here is wonderful, obviously, it is very intense and requires a lot of hard work, but, I enjoy what I’m doing. The lecturers here are great and very, very good at what they teach.
The facilities are great and are all set to get better with the new Law school building that opens in January!
Leeds is a great city, with a vibrant student life. There’s something for everyone to do and there’s a lot to do on the outskirts of the city. From the academic point of view, it’s the second biggest legal centre in England after London and a lot of the big law firms have their offices here.
Another great part of studying here is the Students’ Union, which has almost 400 student societies - there is something for everyone to do! I have been heavily involved with the United Nations Association and got elected Secretary of this society this year!
Outside of my studies, I love travelling! England is very well connected both by road and rail and it’s very easy to get away for a weekend.
Once I graduate from my course I am hoping to break into a city law firm as a solicitor specialising in commercial law. I would advise any students thinking about applying to Leeds that you need to be prepared to work very hard and have a passion for law, but it is a wonderful and enjoyable course!
