Admissions

Admission will take place once a year in September. We will select applicants that have the equivalent of at least a good UK LLB honours degree and appropriate English Language qualifications to meet the University's entry requirements.

Together with your research degree application form, you should give a brief outline of the research topic you are considering pursuing during your Integrated PhD and explain why you are interested in this area of research.

We are not looking for a fully elaborated research proposal at this early stage, but we do need a clear indication of your likely research focus. You should also explain how your research interests will fit in with the taught element of the Integrated PhD and why you are interested in being admitted to the Integrated PhD Programme.

Awards

The Integrated programme provides for the dual award of both the PhD and LLM degrees.

If you successfully complete years 1 and and 2, and satisfy the relevant regulations for the award, you will qualify for  the award of the LLM. You may exit the programme at the end of year 2 with that qualification alone.

If you have been successful in the assessments to that date to the standard required in the published programme of study and you wish to continue study for a PhD degree, you will undergo a transfer assessment process at the end of year 2. If successful in this assessment, you will proceed to full PhD registration in year 3.

At the end of year 4, we will require you to present a PhD thesis on the subject of your research that meets the normal regulations for the award of that degree, including word length, evidence of originality, independent critical ability and matter suitable for publication, plus defence of the thesis at an oral examination.

You may also exit at an earlier point in Years 1 and 2 if you either decide to leave or do not progress beyond the relevant stages and qualify for the award of a postgraduate certificate or a postgraduate diploma, providing you have satisfied the relevant regulations for the award.
