School of Law

Extra-curricular activities for undergraduate students

There are many activities at the School of Law that complement the curriculum.

Pro Bono

The School of Law and the Student Law Society work collaboratively on many Pro Bono Projects. Projects students are currently working on include:

  • Streetlaw presentations in the community
  • the Innocence Project
  • the Legal Advice Clinic
  • working with the Youth Offending Team
  • working with Armley Prison
  • encourage reading in the community
  • fundraising for a variety of causes (including Martin House Hospice)
  • community based hands on projects and mentoring

Mooting

A moot is a mock legal hearing where students play the role of counsel and deliver oral arguments on one or more points of law in front of a judge.

The School of Law at Leeds has a long-established mooting tradition and, now, a purpose-built facility in the Moot Court Room.

While not compulsory, mooting helps you to develop your research skills and practising your communication and presentation skills. It is good practice if you wish to become a barrister.

Student Societies

There are two student societies for students in the School of Law, the Leeds Student Society (LawSoc) and the Criminal Justice Society (CrimSoc). They provide social, sporting, academic and career activities to their respective members.
