LLB Law and French

If you want to ...
- graduate with a qualifying law degree
- think like a lawyer
- cover the seven foundations of legal knowledge
- have a basic grounding in French law
- develop high quality linguistic skills in French.
- spend a year in France and experience French culture and legal culture first hand
... then LLB Law and French is the programme for you.
LLB Law and French provides you with the opportunity to learn about the law, both in the traditional sense of 'thinking like a lawyer' and in the broader sense of law as a social institution.
You will also have the opportunity to become fluent in French, to study aspects of French culture and to spend a year studying law in France.
Our LLB Law and French is a 'Qualifying Law Degree'. This status means that graduation from the programme exempts you from the Common Professional Examination: the initial stage of professional qualification as a solicitor or barrister for both the Law Society of England and Wales, and the Bar Council. This shortens your professional training, should you wish to practise in England and Wales, by one year.
We operate this four year LLB programme with the Department of French. You take two thirds of your course in the Law School and one third in the French Department.
In addition to the language modules, you will study options in French literature, culture and politics.
So, in your first year, you take a module in Comparative European Legal Systems and, in your second year, you take a module in French Law. In your third year, you study aspects of French law in France. Our partner universities are Université Lyon III, Université Toulouse I, Université Nancy II and Université du Maine (Le Mans).
