Postcolonial Approaches to European Law and Legal Studies
Room 1.09, School of Law, The Liberty Building
As the EU consists of former colonial powers, postcolonial approaches to European integration are much needed. Professor Patricia Tuitt (Birkbeck, London) introduces these approaches, and Professor Dora Kostakopoulou (Manchester) will comment.
The first seminar in the series "European integration theory and European legal studies" will highlight tensions between postcolonial theory and European law. Professor Tuitt has published extensively in the field , including the monograph "Race, Law, Resistance" in 2004 and discussing the topic of the seminar in "Narratives of Origins and the Emergence of the European Union', in Lessard et al (eds) Storied Communities: Narratives of Contact and Arrival in Constituting Political Community, Vancouver: UBC Press 2010.
