BA/LLB Law and Accounting entry requirements

Our standard entry requirements for UK and EU students for BA/LLB Law and Accounting are AAB at A2 level, with an A in GCSE Mathematics. 

Equivalent qualifications

We accept the following as equivalent qualifications to A level.

  • Irish Leaving Certificate: AAAABB
  • Scottish Highers: AAABB (AAB at Advanced Higher)
  • Welsh Baccalaureate: Core certificate at level 3, plus AA at A2 level
  • European Baccalaureate: 8.0
  • French Baccalaureate: 15
  • German Abitur: 1.4
  • Spanish COU: 10
  • International Baccalaureate: 36, with 17 points at higher level

Deferred entry

We will accept applications for deferred entry for one year. We encourage applicants who intend to undertake a gap year gaining experience of work, voluntary service or travel to make use of the personal statement section of the UCAS application form to explain their reasons for deferment.

International students

If you are from a country outside the EU and wish to apply to the School of Law, please contact our Faculty Admissions Office for guidance on our entry requirements for international students.

Language requirements

Applicants from countries where English is not the first language will be expected to have one of the following.

  • A grade B in GCSE English Language or equivalent qualification
  • An overall score of at least 6.5 in IELTS with no less than 6.0 in any component
  • At least 573 (paper-based) or 230 (computer based) TOEFL, plus a score of at least 4.5 in the Test of Written English (TWE) and the Test of Spoken English (TSE)

The School of Law does not accept some A level subjects as part of a conditional offer. For further information, please see which A levels do you accept?

GCSE

We also expect applicants for BA/LLB Law and Accounting to have obtained a substantial number of GCSE passes at a high standard, including an A in GCSE Mathematics.
